Swedes are quiet and polite. They genuinely listen when someone else is speaking. They are also private and generally are not open to talking with strangers. Their reserved nature causes Swedes to be perceived as being socially closed, or unfriendly.
Don't let this prevent you from approaching your Swedish co-workers. They will appreciate your friendliness. The Swedish work environment is open, with very little hierarchy. Employees regularly interact with management. Family life is highly valued in Sweden.
